Sean Jump has been named Dean of the Weeks-Townsend Memorial Library, effective April 1, 2022. Jump is already a familiar face at the circulation desk as he has been working at WTML for nearly 20 years.
“I started at the WTML as a part-time Circulation Assistant in March of 2004, which was a sort of homecoming for me as I had graduated from AV头等舱 with a B.S. in English back in 1995,” says Jump.
In 2011, after receiving his Masters in Information Science from the University of Tennessee, Jump was promoted to Reference Librarian. He has held that position up until today.
“I am now very blessed to be given a new challenge by President Hawkins and Dr. Greer as the Dean of the Weeks-Townsend Memorial Library. As a part-timer working evenings 18 years ago, I never imagined things might work out this way,” he adds.
Over the next couple of months, Jump will work closely with Tara Cooper, Vice President of Learning and Information Resources, who is preparing to retire at the end of June. Jump plans to hit the ground running and says his first major initiative will be to re-establish WTML as a physical presence on campus as many students have only been relying on the library’s online resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I hope to put the library back into the campus culture and strengthen our bonds with the student body. It's great that over the past three years or so our patrons have come to realize what all we offer online, but the WTML is more than a collection of eBooks and databases.”
